A Vehicle that Is More than it Seems

Jangel Lampstone appears to be a travelling beer merchant who sells his merchandise from town to town and from village to village. However, his travels take him much farther than any travelling beer merchant would have need to travel. His journeys extend far beyond Cornburn and its environs, even as far afield as the fabled lands of the remotest north. Those very lands where it is said the lights radiating from other worlds dance across the dark fabric of the night sky and which tell stories of infinite wonder—if one knows how to read them.

These distant lands to which he has travelled and about which he speaks often in the inns in poetic language, draws the attention of Thengolis who himself longs to venture beyond the borders of his own town and county.

Jangel Lampstone's travels are largely thanks to what appears to be a somewhat cosy looking caravan, but it is actually a travelling vehicle of far superior design than anything found anywhere in all the lands of Ganwelor. It is known as a tharallavan and disguises itself as a travelling caravan such as the people of the far north are said to use, but which really is something far greater and which hides many wondrous secrets.

In the story of The Star Stone, the tharallavan is put to many uses. Not only can it cross the broad ranges of land pulled by the two horses, Manadoon and Drathar, but it can also be pulled across the great snow plains by a slight modification. And when called upon by great necessity, it may even be used as an ocean going vessel.

"...when called upon by great necessity, it may even
be used as an ocean going vessel..."
Its almost magical ability to be put to so many functions is attributed to its being made of wood that came from the trees of the blessed realm of the far northern lands. As such, the wood of those trees never dies whether it be burnt or used for any other purpose. The trees from those lands have Lethurar Light dwelling in them forever, no matter to what use the wood derived from those beloved trees may be put.
