Shadowold Forest and its Mystical Inhabitress

Lying some miles away from Cornburn, the current name of the town which hosts the Twelve standing stones, lies the forest of Shadowold. Herein is a densely populated world of trees which really can be called a world as it stands distinct from the world of towns, villages, and cities that make up the world as men know it.

Within this wooded realm, an enigmatic and somewhat phantasmal lady dwells who is rarely spotted in the world outside the forest, but who may occasionally be glimpsed in one form or another. And when she is, it may be assumed that the great wheels of history are turning—wheels that rarely turn.

She is known to have a deep affinity with the trees with which she lives, and knows more than most their true nature, for the forest of trees with which she has long made her dwelling, is not made up of ordinary trees, for the these once walked upon the ground,  even as men do, before they were grounded in the soil—but that is another story.

Her name is Quellathenia and she has a great knowledge of Lethurar Light, the binding light that dwells at the heart of all living things and which is as the very light of stars. And she can relate stories of old lore such as how in an age long forgotten why it was that the leaves of trees may change their colour into those of flames at that time of year most in need of the warming embrace of fire light.

She knows how to read the thoughts of the Zalladdria Thaladrimm in the reverberations they send out from their very substance that travel through the ground and that may be heard within the trees and upon the waters—waters both vast and diminutive. Water, of all the substances, it is believed, is able to capture the thoughts of the Zalladria Thalladrimm most clearly if one knows to read it. She is one of the race known as Eldhammar
